How to Choose a Web Hosting Provider
Choosing a vendor may seem quite a headache when you do not know exactly what you are looking for. Generally, there are several factors that are common with all hosting providers and you'll have to consider before making the final choice of provider to choose. Before you register with a provider, ask yourself the following questions:
• How much money are you willing to invest in your website? Most sites can be operational in a few days at very cheap price, but considering how much you are willing to invest in your site before choosing a provider. Remember, accommodation can not be the only thing you spend money when you configure your site, if the budget accordingly.
• How much disk storage will your site need? Your site will be a large database files, or web page mostly text-based? To accommodate the large files on your site, such as images or music, you know exactly how much space all those files need to go so you can get an idea of how much disk space you need for your server.
• How much bandwidth you need? This is a similar question for the storage aspect of your site. To run large files via your website all day, you will need much more bandwidth than most places. If your site will be a few basic pages describing your service and ask people to contact you, then you will probably be allowed to purchase minimum bandwidth.
• Does your site require any special software to work correctly, like scripts. If yes, what kind?
• Do you need a database? Some servers are not configured to host a database, and some can not accommodate certain types. If you are going to need a database of your website, make sure you know in advance what the requirements are.
After asking yourself these questions, mentally visualize your site and what it is meant to be. Get paper and write a few pages where they show up too, and what the function of each site will be. Try to work before hand any additional requirements that your site will require, so when it comes time to actually put in place on your computer and your hosting provider, you will not be surprised if the requirements you have not worked out yet.
It is always a good idea to research several hosting companies before making any decision. Take a look at their website and read the technical requirements of their server software and hardware. Do not just read the hype to sell, they will all tell you that this is the best value and most powerful of them all. See if you can find links to sites that are hosted on their servers and see if these sites similar to what you envision for yours.
